The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector has had a major impact on South Africa’s economy and society in recent years. Through a combination of government support and private sector investment, new employment opportunities have emerged during a period in which the sector has significantly grown and the country has established itself as a global leader in customer experience excellence.
At Webhelp we have multiple sites across South Africa in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, and Pretoria, where colleagues work with some of the world’s most recognisible brands to deliver game changing customer journeys.
Tammy Chetty, our Managing Director of South Africa, was recently invited to speak on The Outsource Accelerator Podcast with Derek Gallimore about the reasons why the BPO sector has become such an integral part of the South African economy.
In the podcast, Tammy talks about the level of opportunities now being seen within the country’s economy, its ability to rapidly create jobs at scale, and how Webhelp is helping with job creation, most notably through offering roles to people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“Our objective as an organization is to make an impact in the communities that we operate in. Developing skills and removing barriers that keep youth locked out of the formal sector. We also have amazing offices for our people, our salaries are highly competitive, and we provide many benefits, including transport and medical aid. And we make sure to grow our talent…90% of our team leaders come from our advisor population, benefiting from proper career progression paths.”
We are incredibly proud to have a positive impact in South African communities, embodied in our ESG #MoreMovement campaign to make our business more human. Read more on this and about our aim to give every Webhelper the power to transform their lives and their communities here.
